Dementia-test

Through this test for women, we predict the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

In this test, you take a saliva sample with the buccal swab in your kit. You send your sample via the return envelope in your kit to the lab. 

There you will be tested to see if you are a carrier of the APO E4 protein. A person who is a carrier of APO E4, is six times more likely to have Alzheimer's disease. The biomarker is found in about 20 percent of women.    

Research has shown that women with this E4 variant benefit greatly from taking hormones during menopause. The increased risk can be corrected to the normal risk as with the APO E2, APO E3 variants.

When the results are available you will be notified by mail. When you are a carrier of th APO E4 protein, Professor Dr. Depypere will discuss possible next steps via a telephone call. There is a possibility to book a follow-up consultation.
