Everything you need to know about Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases among 14 to 24-year-olds. Most infected people do not know they are infected since Chlamydia do not always show symptoms. Chlamydia may lead to health complications but, if detected early, it can easily be treated and cured with antibiotic medicine, so nothing to worry about :)

Chlamydia is usually spread during sexual contact with someone who has the infection. However, the infection is carried in semen (cum), pre-cum, and vaginal fluids, which means that you can get it even if no one reaches orgasm. Chlamydia can also be spread to a baby during birth if the mother has it. 

The main ways people get chlamydia are from having vaginal sex and anal sex, but it can also be spread through oral sex. Oral chlamydia is manifested by the appearance of the bacteria in the mouth and/or throat. This case is much less common than genital chlamydia, but better take some precautions! Using condoms and/or dental dams every time you have sex is the best way to help prevent chlamydia. 

Chlamydia isn’t spread through casual contact so you cannot get chlamydia from sharing food or drinks, kissing, hugging, holding hands, coughing, sneezing, or sitting on the toilet.

Chlamydia can infect the penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, eyes, and throat. You can get chlamydia by touching your eye if you have infected fluids on your hand. It is rare but it can happen! 

Most people with chlamydia don’t have any symptoms and feel totally fine, so they might not even know they’re infected. If you get oral chlamydia, you could feel some soreness and redness in your throat or mouth. But other than that, symptoms rarely show. That is why regular STD testing is so important! 

Chlamydia can be easily cleared up with antibiotics. But if you don't treat it, it may lead to major health problems in the future. The sooner you know and you act, the faster you cure it. Get tested now!
